SVB has said that its current expectation of Hurricane Katrina losses net of reinsurance and reinstatement premiums will be around £25m.
The expectation comes from the assumption that the insured loss to the industry of the hurricane is estimated at $40bn.
SVB will announce its interim results for the period ended 30 June 2005 on Friday 16 September.
