Majority of firms will freeze pay in 2010 survey finds

Swinton insurance plans to freeze pay next year, the Times reports.

It said 58% of company directors polled by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said they were planning wage freezes during 2010. Another 5% said they planned to cut pay next year.

Last month the Bank of England estimated that 40% of private sector employers had frozen pay over the past year.

The Guardian reported that BCC found that 63% of the 260 companies questioned were considering pay restrictions and 18% were looking at the removal of benefits.
