The explosion at a fertiliser factory in Toulouse on September 21 could cost the insurance industry as much as $1bn (£676.5m), according to initial estimates.

It is believed the explosion centred on an ammonium nitrate storage facility. Three hundred tonnes of the substance were destroyed, 29 people were killed and more than 2,000 were injured. Several buildings were damaged or destroyed.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
