Arrests linked to alleged £5m fraud at McKeowns

There have been two more arrests in connection with an alleged £5m fraud by a lawyer from personal injury law firm McKeowns, it has emerged.

Frank Harrold, a director of BCR Legal Assist, an after-the-event broker, was arrested on suspicion of fraud-related offences and released on police bail on 5 March.

A 37-year-old woman has also been arrested in connection with the case, and released on bail.

Brian Barso of McKeowns was arrested on 12 March and released on police bail. Insurance Times understands the investigation centres on payments received by Barso over a period of time.

There is no suggestion that McKeowns or BCR Legal Assist are implicated in any of the allegations.

A spokesman for Janes Solicitors, which is acting for Harrold, said: “Our client fully co-operated with the police investigation. Our client vigorously denies any allegations of wrongdoing against him.”

The City of London police confirmed the inquiry is ongoing.
