Representatives of the insurance industry and the Department for Transport have agreed to work on a dual track strategy in the fight against uninsured driving.

The first high-level meeting since the publication of the Greenaway report, held this week, was described as "productive and positive" by the ABI, with both parties agreeing to work on the report's recommendations.

An ABI spokesman said: "The meeting was designed to run through the basic issues needed to take the Greenaway report forward.

"There was a consensus and commitment for everyone to progress to the same place, for example in the development of the database and stricter penalties for those caught driving without insurance."

  • Justin Jacobs has been appointed as head of motor at the ABI. Jacobs joins the ABI from the Treasury.
