Danny Walkinshaw looks at the latest insurance stories online

MySpace, Facebook and now Twitter – social networking has taken over the world. Insurance Times has decided it’s time to join the fun. Readers who are signed up to Facebook can now become friends of Insurance Times on our dedicated Facebook page where you can interact and discuss all things insurance.

The Insider, the shadowy industry bigwig who writes the Backchat page, has also signed up under the alias “Backchat Insider”. Feel free to pay him a visit – and bring gossip.

It has been an eventful week at insurancetimes.co.uk too. Biba’s blast at the FSA over fee and levy hikes was the most popular story of the week, closely followed by the news that Irish insurer Quinn is jetting to London next month to hold talks with brokers.

The new monthly blog by SSP director Jonathan Davey has also been a hit. Meanwhile, John Kitson of Norwich Union continues his musings on the rebranding to Aviva.

Elsewhere on news websites, Esure’s announcement that it was creating 500 new jobs in Scotland was widely reported.

Australian giant IAG also hit the headlines after it forecast a sharp drop in first-half profit and unveiled plans to raise A$450m (£204m) in a share placement.
