App allows drivers to try before they buy

The Co-operative Insurance and Wunelli, the telematics company, have announced their first telematics app, Young Driver.

The app is available on both iPhone and Android smartphones, and lets drivers trial the app before buying a policy from The Co-operative.

Data collected from the app is anonymous, but in its aggregated form will enable The Co-operative to build its understanding of driving behaviour to support underwriting activity for new policyholders.

Wunelli chairman Sandy Dunn said: “The objective of the Young Driver app is to enable prospective policyholders to have a greater understanding and confidence around how telematics policies work and to see for themselves how their driving behaviour might be scored if they decided to opt for this type of policy.

Co-operative young driver insurance manager Amy Kilmartin said: “We know that there is a great deal of consumer education to be done around telematics and this app will give customers a simple, no-commitment opportunity to see how they would benefit from a telematics policy with The Co-operative.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
