XL Capital today reported net income for the quarter ended 31 March of $442.9m (£230.7m), 2% less than $452.2m (£235.5m) in the first quarter last year.

Net premiums written from general operations increased by 2% to $2.8bn (£1.5bn), while the combined ratio from general operations was reported as 89.7%.

The company said losses from European storm Erwin totalled around $50m (£26m) after tax.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
