Instead of worrying about how many boats would file claims, Round the Island yacht race participants from Haven Knox Johnson (HKJ) and Saga should have instead worried about how they would get home.

After battling temperamental seas, threatening Needles and cold, wet weather, the exhausted participants no doubt wanted nothing more than to hurry back to their cosy homes and sink into a warm bath.

But that was not to be. Southampton traffic police were out in full force - clamping vehicles and slapping on fines after parking tickets expired.

Saga director of insurance services John Potter was one such victim and an employee of HKJ was not amused when he returned to find a flat tyre.

Backchat reckons that next year HKJ and Saga will race around the island in record time.
