Chancellor bungles his arithmetic

It seems that in all the excitement of his first budget speech, Alistair Darling forgot the current rate of corporation tax.

Backchat was amused to see that during his speech, Darling inadvertently gave the business sector a 10 point cut in corporate taxation, after he mistakenly pegged the current rate at 38% instead of 30%.

It should have been a two point decrease to 28%.

Who said strong maths skills were a necessity for becoming Chancellor of the Exchequer?
