Occupational hazards abound for professional liability providers

Professional risks has become a far more complex market since the financial crisis, but the impact has differed between sectors. Surveyors face a barrage of claims from mortgage lenders, but in financial D&O a spike never materialised. Financial lines and construction PI have remained attractive. Market segmentation is the reality as the specific needs of each profession become more pronounced.

The cover needed in an environment where business activity is more closely scrutinised is changing rapidly. Policy wording is being overhauled as policies evolve to cover more complex risks.

There is also a stream of new capacity, resulting in low premiums. In some instances insurers are retrenching, limiting the amount of business they write.

Insurance Times has monitored the market since the crisis to create an unrivalled picture of professional risks. Dive in for broker research, analysis of the biggest stories and trends, and expert predictions and views.
