Scarrett, who will report into Covéa’s IT and business services director Clive Bryant, has been in the insurance industry for more than 30 years, starting his career at Melville Burbage.

He joined MMA in 1993 as motor section leader and was appointed household underwriting manager in 2006. In 2008, he was promoted to head of underwriting, personal lines. In his new role as head of electronic trading, he will lead delivery of Covéa Insurance’s e-trading strategy and the management of relationships with the software house partners.

He has held senior pricing and underwriting roles at Legal & General and Direct Line/RBS. In his new role, he will lead activities focused on effective underwriting control and risk selection for Covéa Insurance’s private car, commercial vehicle and home products. He will report to Covéa’s personal lines director Colin Batabyal.

Covéa chief executive James Reader said: “Our new combined organisation provides us with a great foundation on which to build and we’re fortunate to have a wealth of talented and hugely experienced people within our business. I’m delighted to announce these two key appointments, and Martin and Malcolm’s breadth of experience and expertise will be invaluable in helping us to shape and drive our e-trading and personal lines underwriting strategies.”
