Kevin Reid, head of fraud technology and intelligence at Sedgwick, explains his firm’s entry into the Excellence in Fraud Mitigation category
Why did you put yourselves forward for the category?

We entered the Excellence in Fraud Mitigation category because our deployment of Verint Trust Bot represents a meaningful step forward in how fraud is identified and managed at the earliest stage of the claims journey. Rather than relying solely on traditional post-claim analysis, the solution uses conversational artificial intelligence (AI) and behavioural analytics during first notification of loss to help detect potential fraud.
The initiative has delivered measurable improvements in detection rates, reduced fraud-related costs and enabled faster outcomes for genuine claimants, making it a strong example of innovation delivering practical business and customer benefits as the industry moves towards digital transformation.
What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?
What sets our entry apart is its ability to identify fraud risk at the moment a claim is reported, using behavioural intelligence and conversational analysis rather than relying primarily on historical data markers or retrospective investigations. Trust Bot supports handlers with insights while remaining invisible to customers, helping maintain a seamless experience for genuine claimants.
The initiative combines advanced technology with human expertise, resulting in a measurable increase in early fraud detection, significant avoided fraud costs and improved claims processing times. It demonstrates how innovation can strengthen fraud prevention while enhancing fairness and customer trust.
What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
Winning this award would be recognition of the work our teams have undertaken to modernise fraud prevention while keeping customers at the centre of the claims experience. It would validate our belief that advanced technology and ethical use of AI is most effective when combined with expert human judgement and robust operational processes.
Beyond recognising the success of this specific initiative, the award would reinforce our commitment to innovation, fairness and protecting honest customers from the impact of insurance fraud. It would also highlight the value of investing in solutions that deliver measurable outcomes for clients, customers and the insurance industry.
