The ABI has sought a meeting with Biba to discuss Biba's proposed service standards.

Biba has been working with its partner insurers, including Zurich, AXA, Allianz Cornhill, Groupama and Norwich Union, to design the standards, which address the prompt settlement of claims, the timely issue of renewal terms and accuracy of documentation.

Biba chief executive Mike Williams said that although Biba's partner insurers cover about 90% of the UK general insurance market, the ABI's support would ensure wider recognition and acceptance.

An ABI spokesman confirmed the ABI has requested a meeting with Biba, but said it is also considering drawing up its own service standards.

"There's been a lot of talk about late renewal notices. We're trying to establish if there's a problem," he said.

Biba plans to release the standards at the end of March.
