The ABI is to publish a statement of best practice for the selling of private medical insurance (PMI) cover.

The statement will come into force on 15 January 2005 to coincide with the FSA's replacement of GISC as industry regulator.

The ABI said the statement was intended to provide the industry with a comprehensive code of practice for offering PMI products, and also to ensure that the consumer experienced a smooth transition to FSA regulation of PMI sales.

It will replace the parts of the GISC's existing rules for which the FSA will not be taking responsibility.
