Insurer despatches experts to investigate 24 July derailment claims

Spanish rail disaster train

A unit of Allianz underwrote the accident insurance policy for the Renfe-Operadora train that derailed in north-west Spain on 24 July, according to Best Week.

Allianz Seguros, the firm’s Spanish arm, has issued a statement saying it has sent a team of experts to begin investigating the crash site.

The Renfe-Operadora train derailed near the city of Santiago de Compostela, killing 80 and injuring 168 passengers, when travelling at up to twice the speed limit.

The insurer said it aimed to complete its investigation in the “most rapid and effective” way.
