Ratings agency AM Best has affirmed the financial strength rating of A-(Excellent) of Gerling.

The ratings move was in response to Gerling's strong business performance in industrial insurance and its excellent operating performance.

An AM Best spokesman said: "AM Best believes that GKA [Gerling] is well positioned to take advantage of a shortage of capacity in this specialist segment and expects that GKA will continue its profit-oriented growth strategy."

However the ratings agency warned that Gerling's limited financial flexibility limited its financial strength.
