Former Swiss Re marine underwriter joins insurers' Syndicate 2001

Lloyd’s insurer Amlin has appointed Tom Brand as leading class underwriter to head the cargo team for its highly regarded Syndicate 2001.

He will report to Simon Beale, divisional underwriter of the Marine division.

Brand joins from Swiss Re’s marine underwriting team, where he focused on specialist and capacity driven cargo risks, including US stock-throughput, oil and project cargo risks.

Prior to joining Swiss Re, Brand’s twenty-one year career in marine insurance included eighteen years underwriting and managing cargo accounts for Hiscox, CGU and Berkshire Hathaway.

Simon Beale said: “We are delighted that Tom Brand is joining us to lead our cargo account during the next phase of its development.

"Tom, together with the current team, will be able to support the existing portfolio as well as broaden our customer offering and thus the diversity and balance of the business.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
