The Irish Insurance Federation (IIF) wants an abolition of the 2% stamp duty on insurance premiums.

The Irish government is due to release its budget on 4 December.

In its pre-Budget submission, the IIF also lobbied for full government resourcing for reforms to control motor and liability insurance costs.

It said the stamp duty was an "unwelcome extra burden on policyholders both private and commercial".

This duty raised €69m (£43.6m) in 2001 for the government.
