Direct Commercial Limited’s business development manager talks to Insurance Times about his strong performance in this year’s Fantasy Football league
As the technology-focused part of the insurance market recovers from last night’s Insurance Times Tech and Innovation Awards, readers taking part in the Insurance Times Fantasy Football League have some time before gameweek five kicks off.
The next round of Premier League games kicks off tomorrow at 12.30 with the Merseyside derby, as Liverpool host city rivals Everton.
So, before you make any panicked transfers for the weekend’s games, we thought you might enjoy some tips from current league number two.
Direct Commercial Limited (DCL) business development manager Martin Kershaw currently sits in second with 283 points, 11 points behind leader Islam Mohammed.
1. Congrats on being in the top 10 for GW4, how do you rate your chances of staying there for the season?
Probably slim to none! I’ve been participating in Fantasy Premier League for a number of years and this is the best start to the season I’ve ever had – to be in the top 50,000 in the world is amazing.
Sometimes when you’re struggling week in week out there is the propensity for enthusiasm to wane. Not having a team in the Premier League, however, I can be fairly objective in selecting players from teams and, like my team Sheffield United, I hope to continue climbing up the league!
2. What are the key decisions to make ahead of GW5?
Whether to stick or twist with my player selections. There’s a few selection clashes as teams play each other so, making the right decisions on whether to keep or drop to the bench, along with possibly bring in fresh legs, is key.
The main performers for me have been player who moved on to bigger clubs in the transfer window, as well as established players like Haaland returning to form following a lacklustre season last year, by his standards.
3. Who would you call out as an under-rated player for everyone’s Fantasy squad?
The obvious one is Joao Pedro, who has excelled following his move to Chelsea. But, for me, the one coming in under the radar is probably Caicedo. Priced at £5.5m, he has been a bit of a steal this year.
There are a number of lower priced players who are excelling this year, but can they keep it up? That will be the question.
4. Who or what would you like to call out in the insurance industry?
DCL, being Chelmsford based, continues to help and support our local charity, The Little Edi Foundation, which is making a real difference for some of the most vulnerable families in Essex.
Children and young people are at the heart of the organisation, which provides equal access to education and learning development for all children to reach their full potential.
