’It is important to pat ourselves on the back for the massive progress market firms have made in recent years and the true innovation that is bubbling away in every corner of UKGI,’ says Insurance Times editor
The UK general insurance (UKGI) industry’s technology thought leaders gathered at the Royal Lancaster London last night (18 September 2025) for the Tech and Innovation Awards 2025, an Insurance Times event.
Hosted by actor Shaun Williamson, best known for his portrayal of Barry Evans in Eastenders, the glamorous evening celebrated the individuals, firms and initiatives pushing the boundaries of digital innovation in insurance.
Around 300 guests enjoyed a drinks reception and three course dinner before 17 awards were presented across a variety of categories, covering focus areas such as data analytics, artificial intelligence and customer experience.
New for this year was the eTrading Innovation of the Year award, which saw its inaugural winner crowned.
Addressing the audience in an opening welcome, Insurance Times editor Katie Scott said: “Although there is plenty of rhetoric that UK general insurance is behind the technology curve when compared to other industry sectors – and yes, we have to confess that there are still strides to go – it is important, however, to pat ourselves on the back for the massive progress market firms have made in recent years and the true innovation that is bubbling away in every corner of UKGI.”
Two of the night’s most prestigious accolades went to standout individuals.
The Technology Champion of the Year crown was awarded to Andre Symes, group chief executive at Genasys, while the coveted Young Achiever in Technology and Innovation prize went to Gareth Haagman, founding engineer at Testudo.
Other winners included Aviva, which took home the Innovation of the Year – Insurer award, ManyPets, which won Best Use of Technology for Customer Experience – Claims, and Cuvva, which impressed judges to secure Best Use of AI.
