MS Amlin bolsters cyber team with senior underwriting appointments

MS Amlin has appointed Alex Jomaa as head of cyber and Monica Tigleanu as lead underwriter as the Lloyd’s insurer looks to expand its direct cyber portfolio. 

The appointments come following the insurer’s move into cyber treaty in 2024 and direct cyber insurance in 2025 through a small number of strategic coverholder relationships.

Martin Burke, chief underwriting officer at MS Amlin, said the appointments marked the next stage in the development of the insurer’s cyber portfolio.

“We already have an established presence in the cyber market, where we have grown our cyber treaty and delegated business in a controlled and disciplined way,” he said.

Building cyber expertise

Jomaa joins from cyber insurance MGA Onda AI, where he was chief underwriting officer and a founding executive. He has also previously held cyber underwriting roles at Tokio Marine Kiln and CFC Underwriting.

Tigleanu, meanwhile, was most recently cyber strategy director at BMS Group and has held senior cyber underwriting and broking roles at Munich Re Syndicate, Marsh Specialty, Beazley and AIG.

“They bring the underwriting expertise and market experience needed to scale the portfolio further, while maintaining the same careful and selective underwriting approach,” Burke said.

He added that cyber was one of the areas where MS Amlin saw an opportunity to broaden its existing portfolio and drive further growth.

“Cyber is one of those areas and we believe there is a clear opportunity to build a larger and more meaningful position in the market and meet more of our brokers’ needs,” he concluded.
