Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway reported a 60% rise in its net earnings from underwriting during the second quarter of 2004. It reported net earnings of $422m from underwriting, up from the $263m recorded for the second quarter of 2003. It said all its insurance operations were performing very well.
