William Hague and Professor Brian Cox have been confirmed as the keynote speakers for this year’s Biba conference in Manchester, to be hosted by Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman.

The conference will open with a panel debate on the health of UK general insurance featuring:

  • AXA chief executive, commercial lines and personal intermediary Amanda Blanc;
  • Ageas UK chief executive Andy Watson;
  • Former Oval chief executive Peter Blanc; and
  • Marsh chief executive, commercial and consumer Julie Page.

First secretary for state and leader of the House of Commons Hague will then take to the stage on the afternoon of the first day of the conference, with Cox closing proceedings the following day.

There will also be six seminar sessions on a wide range of topics, from technology in motor insurance to customer satisfaction in the insurance sector, data segmentation, the new surge in British manufacturing, management speak and risk-taking.

Fringe sessions open to all attendees will once again support the main programme.

Other keynote speakers at the Delivering our Promise themed conference include England cricketer Andrew Strauss, 11-time paralympic gold medal winner Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, former England football manager Kevin Keegan and Professor Steve Peters.

Biba chief executive Steve White said: “Delivering our Promise is about articulating what brokers do for their customers, acting as trusted advisors and helping to minimise risk. It also allows us as Biba to talk about ‘our’ promise to members to always act in their best interests.”

The conference will take place on 13 and 14 May at Manchester Central.
