The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) has appointed Derek Thornton as chairman.

Thonrton, a director of Heath Lambert and chairman of FSJ their London Market UK Wholesale Division, will succeed current chairman Max Taylor at the Association's July AGM.

Thornton has held senior roles at a number of international Lloyd's brokers.

He has many City and market involvements, including having been the founding chairman of the CII's London Market Faculty.

Max Taylor, chairman of BIBA, and deputy chairman of Aon, said: "We are delighted that Derek has accepted the role. Derek has a wealth of broking knowledge and experience of the industry and I know that he will bring great benefits to BIBA's board. I'm sure he will prove to be a strong chairman for the organisation and will successfully guide BIBA and its members through the challenges that face intermediaries and the industry as a whole.“

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
