Biba chief executive Eric Galbraith is preparing to defend the industry from a proposed EU investigation.
The announcement follows reports of a planned inquiry by EU competition commissioner, Nellie Kroes, into the nature of competition in the industry.
Galbraith said he would defend the sector and will tell the EU that the UK insurance market is functioning well and there is a high level of active competitiveness.
Galbraith slammed accusations of a malfunctioning UK insurance industry, saying they were “unfounded".
“The size and strength of the brokers and intermediaries market in the UK ensures a very high level of competition within the market,” he said.
“In fact it has been said that the UK market is too competitive and overly regulated, thus damaging the financial strength of the industry."
