Welsh broker Motaquote launches young drivers’ policy

Welsh broker Motaquote is launching a new young driver policy aimed at reducing premiums and cutting the number of road crashes.

Following a successful pilot in Wales, the new ‘i-kube’ device is now being rolled out across the UK by Motaquote in partnership with RSA. Aimed at drivers aged between 17-25 years, the broker claims the policy will offer up to 40% discount on their insurance premiums provided they don’t drive between the hours of 23.00 and 05.00 – the time when the chances of them being in a road crash is at its highest.

Nigel Lombard, managing director of Motaquote, said: “Young drivers remain in the age group with the highest proportion of insurance claims, road crashes and fatalities on our roads. As we go into the darker winter months, it is even more important to highlight these dangers.

“Motaquote is always looking at ways to bring down insurance premiums. We recognise the financial pressures for drivers taking to the roads for the first time and have introduced the i-kube to address this. i-kube is an innovative way of helping reduce the number of needless road crashes and deaths that are caused on our roads each year – while allowing young drivers access to insurance premiums in their own name that are affordable."

Using telematics technology, in the form of a GPS style device into the policyholder’s car, i-kube monitors when the car is used. If it is used between 23.00 and 05.00, the policy holder will still be insured but an additional one-off fee of £45 per night will be charged.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
