Powell Insurance Brokers has announced a large increase in the number of clients who are incepting cover for Avian Influenza (AI).
Due to the increase in the number of requests for AI cover, Powell has taken the step of reserving capacity in the first instance for existing clients.
Andy Dutton, from the Liverpool-based broker, said: “We have undergone a process of speaking to all existing clients to ensure that where they want the cover we have provided it for them.”
The company's bespoke Poultry Elite product is underwritten by Crowe Livestock Underwriting Limited.
Dutton, said: “We have worked closely with Crowe Livestock, and our clients, to develop this product and two years ago rates and wordings were agreed, not only to cover Avian Influenza, but also other government slaughter diseases.”
Emma Stamper from Crowe added: “For those birds that are slaughtered following Government order, our policy will pay 25% of the market value. This acts as a top up to the government compensation, effectively covering the business interruption which is not compensated for.”
The cover does not cover the consequential losses following an outbreak of AI but Crowe said it was working with selected carriers to bring about a solution.
