Claims Direct, the embattled personal injury claims specialist, saw the number of claims taken on rise from 1,100 in June to 2,000 in August.

The improvement in business was revealed yesterday by the company's new chief executive, Ronnie Henderson.

Claims Direct would need 2,300 cases per month to break even, the new chief claimed.

Henderson, who spoke at the company's first annual general meeting since it was listed 14 months ago, said he was looking at ways of settling the current law suits from several Claims Direct franchisees.

The share price of Claims Direct, which is listed under the speciality & other finance sector of the London Stock Exchange, closed unchanged yesterday at 10p.
