Underwriting boss McGinn set to take others with him to Gallagher

Members of a Canopius underwriting team who want to resign will be joining Gallagher Heath, a Canopius spokesman confirmed.

Insurance Times was first to report that Canopius head of household underwriting Chris McGinn and members of his team are poised to quit the Lloyd’s insurer.

McGinn and a number of his team have told Canopius they want to resign. McGinn headed up the UK household and miscellaneous personal property division of Canopius.

A Canopius spokesman would not reveal exactly how many employees are involved, but confirmed that “certain members” of the team also want to hand in their resignation alongside McGinn’s.

The team includes joint deputy divisional underwriters Andrew Booth and Dominic Miller, and underwriters Leo Downes and Rob Morris.

However, head of claims Michael White will not be leaving Canopius.

The spokesman said: “We intend to continue to underwrite this business, and plan to recruit additional resources to strengthen the team as necessary.”

A Gallagher spokesman was not available for comment.
