Airbus A320 that landed in the Hudson sold for scrap

AIG’s Chartis is selling for $2m the hull of the Airbus A320 that Captain Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger landed in the Hudson river, the Times reports.

The Times said the seller was “Charteris Insurace”, but said it was a subsidiary of insurance giant AIG, clearly meaning Chartis.

The Times said the sale note described the hull as having: “Severe water damage throughout airframe. Impact damage to underside of aircraft.”

Metal Bulletin Monthly reported that a similarly junked Airbus A310 that sold for $2.6m, made its new owners $4m when it was broken for scrap.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
