New Lloyd's Syndicate calls it 'an historic moment'

Chubb's new Lloyd's Syndicate, Chubb 1882, has written its first piece of business.

Chubb 1882 wrote the Marine Hull risk, which will incept on 1st July, to Willis.

Rob Cage, active underwriter of Chubb 1882, said: "This is a historic moment for Chubb. It marks the next big chapter in the development of the company’s European business.”

Chubb Managing Agent has also appointed Christopher Smith as its chief operating officer of Chubb 1882.

Smith will be responsible for leading the operational activates of the syndicate and will report to Michael Casella, chief executive of Chubb Insurance Company of Europe SE.

Smith said: “What attracted me to this role was the opportunity to develop one of the few non-turnkey Syndicates in the Lloyd’s market.

"Working at Chubb 1882 means I am in the enviable position of marrying Chubb’s strength with the unrivalled Lloyd’s operating environment.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
