Insurer leaves Belgium for UK domicile

Chubb claims it is “business as usual” for its European operations after confirming it is now domiciled in the UK.

Chubb Insurance Europe, which had its headquarters in Belgium, will now be regulated by the FSA as Chubb Insurance Company of Europe SE.

The move follows its UK underwriting and claims operations, already based here.

Chubb said many of its European-wide support functions and management team have also made the switch in recent years.

Chris Giles, chief executive of Chubb Insurance Company of Europe, said the move will not lead to a restructuring of the business. “It is business as usual at Chubb Europe,” he said.

“This change does not affect any of the terms and conditions of our customers’ policies – or our business dealings.

“Our personal and commercial insurance business in the UK and throughout Europe continues to operate in the same way it has always done.

“There are no changes to the company structure and all staff and policies have been transferred over unchanged.”

Giles also praised strong financial ratings for Chubb Corporation and Chubb Europe fgiven by AM Best and Standard & Poor’s.
