The level of insurance claims falls over Bank Holiday weekends, even though more traffic is on the roads. That's according to RAC Insure.

The RAC claims it has received fewer calls than usual over this year's holiday weekends.

RAC Financial Services Managing Director Jason Richards said: "While it would be great to think our findings show people allowing more time and taking greater care on bank holiday weekends, it's more likely that higher traffic levels produce lower overall speeds."

RAC research found that motorists are more likely to suffer theft when leaving cars at home on a bank holiday, compared to ordinary weekends.

Richards said: "Prevention is better than cure. A little time spent securing your vehicle will make life easier for you and not the thief!"
