Consumers rank safety and security as the most important factor in buying insurance, but do not realise there is compensation available if their insurer collapses.

A Mori poll for the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) revealed 63% of consumers were unaware they could be compensated if their insurance provider went bust, with 45% not knowing whether they would be compensated if their provider went into liquidation.
