The Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) has warned consumers that they should check their medical insurance policies to ensure they fully understand what their own policy will actually cover and resolve any ambiguity.

The statement from AMII follows concern expressed recently by the cancer information charity, Cancerbackup. It is questioning whether individual medical insurance providers regard cancer as a chronic or acute condition and hence what certain policies will and will not cover.

Stephen Walker, chairman of the AMII, said: “Clarity about what is covered is paramount. Consumers should know and understand whether their policy will cover all the costs of consultant fees, scans, drugs and what type of drugs, in-patient and out-patient care and after care."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
