Plans to fast track miners compensation claims have been met with controversy.

The decision to give miners with limited lung damage the option of fast tracking compensation claims was taken in the High Court yesterday.

But there are disagreements over which particular categories of claimants would qualify for compensation, and exactly how much would be agreeable to both parties.

The fast track scheme has been welcomed by Small Business Minister Nigel Griffiths, while miners' widows are said to be unhappy about the ruling.

Both parties in yesterday's High Court hearing have been asked to put forward a joint submission for the Lord Justice's consideration.
