Rural mutual the first to get CII gold standard

Cornish Mutual, the Truro-based rural insurer, has got chartered insurer status from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

The mutual had to prove good professional practice, customer service and ethical work. It is the first mutual in the country to get chartered status.

Only 15 other insurers are chartered, including AXA Commercial, Zurich Insurance and Allianz Insurance.

Cornish Mutual managing director Alan Goddard said: “Our aim now is to make this a springboard for further development and success as we continue to grow our business with the clear vision of becoming the rural insurer of choice in the south west.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
