Loss adjuster Crawford's has assembled teams in Sydney and Melbourne to deal with the Australian bushfires.

The loss adjuster already has a team operating from temporary offices in Canberra.

A Crawford's spokesman said that by the second day of the operation they had received approximately 50 claims, including total loss domestic claims as well as commercial losses.

The fire has brought forward the company's plan to open an office in Canberra as its Australian operation grows.

One Australian insurer, which provides cover for houses in the Australian Capital Territory, is believed to be facing more than 500 claims.
