DAS UK Holdings, the parent company of DAS Legal Expenses, has announced a profit before tax of £12.1m (2004 restated £4.9m).

Paul Asplin, DAS Holdings CEO said: "We are delighted to have enjoyed another successful year, in what remains a difficult market sector.

"We remain particularly concerned that the uncertainties surrounding the ATE market have still not been resolved.

"The government would do well to note that there are now only three UK insurers writing this business in any volume and action must now be taken to resolve the current issues and bring to an end the wasteful litigation that continues to hamper the development of this vital part of the access to justice concept."

He added: "We have benefited from some changes to our management structure made towards the end of 2005, particularly in the underwriting area and these changes are now reaping rewards."

He also said: "DAS is very excited about the future prospect for business development; both in legal insurance and the legal services sector, especially as the government dismantles the archaic rules currently restricting solicitor ownership."
