It was good to see so many representatives from the UK insurance and reinsurance industry in Monte Carlo for the annual reinsurance Rendez-Vous, though for some getting there was less than easy.

As ever, BA, which delivered many of the UK attendees did a sterling job. BA's computer-based check-in system crashed early on Saturday morning, which resulted in several hours of flight delays.

Two of the UK's more prominent delegates were among those caught in the chaos but while Lloyd's chairman Lord Levene received a special escort through the crowds to the irritation of fellow travellers, BA managed to lose the luggage of International Underwriting Association chief executive Marie-Louise Rossi.

Once in Monte Carlo, however, a good time was had by all, especially those Rendez-Vous-goers who took the advice about getting close to reinsurance brokers rather literally.
