Half the insurance industry in the UK uses the direct debit facility for both quotation and renewal stage, finds research by the Bank Automated Clearing System (BACS).

The number of people who prefer to use direct debit rose to 43% in 2000, an increase of 11% over the decade.

The UK banking industry has launched a major marketing campaign promoting the benefits of direct debit to consumers.

Throughout the spring there will be a national television and radio advertising campaign and direct mailing targeting 24 million households in the UK.


The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
