Direct insurer launches two new products for small businesses

Direct Line has launched two products for small businesses, continuing its expansion into the commercial lines arena.

The new policies, for home run businesses and office and surgery owners, will be available through the umbrella brand ‘Direct Line for Business’. The brand, started last September, already has policies for residential property owners, shops and tradesmen. Additional policies catering for pubs, restaurants and small hotels will soon also be available.

Home business cover includes product and public liability plus several add-on options, such as cover for theft or accidental damage to items such as laptops or mobile phones. Office and surgery cover includes public and products liability cover up to £2 million and standard employers’ liability cover of up to £10 million.

A Direct Line for Business spokesman said: “With such a litigious society, it’s important to have an appropriate level of liability cover.

Many small business owners are unaware of their liability to their clients for the products and services they provide or the impact if the business is interrupted due to an incident in the home, while office and surgery owners often have to have expensive equipment.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
