Royal & SunAlliance professional and financial risks manager Nigel Salisbury said the employment practices liability (EPL) market is set for significant growth.

He attributed this rise to an increasing number of employers seeking cover for discrimination claims.

Salisbury said recent high-profile disputes relating to workplace discrimination claims highlighted the potential for dramatic expansion in the EPL market.

"You only have to look at the increasing number of instances of people claiming for discrimination [for evidence]," Salisbury said.

Salisbury highlighted the recent case of Stephanie Villalba, a former Merrill Lynch executive, who is demanding £7m damages in a sex discrimination claim against the company.

Lloyd's underwriter Beazley is one insurer to have introduced EPL products to the UK in the past year.
