Equity Red Star has moved for the motor accounts of South Essex Insurance Broker (SEIB) after Ecclesiastical announced it was pulling of the UK broker motor market.

SEIB deputy chairman Barry Fehler told Insurance Times that the motor insurer had picked up the broker’s funeral directors, rural taxi and chauffeur policies.

Last week, Ecclesiastical announced that it would withdraw from fleet and motor schemes across its Ecclesiastical and Ansvar brands early next year following a strategic review of its UK motor business.

Ecclesiastical, whose motor book is worth under £20m in gross written premium, said it would work with brokers to manage their motor schemes and the run-off of its fleet business.

Fehler said the accounts were worth £9m in gross written premium and that the changeover would not affect its rates or service for sub-brokers.
