First Direct, the direct division of HSBC Bank, has launched a telephone-based motor insurance service on the internet.

The product is available to both customer and non-customers alike and can be accessed on firstdirect.com.

The bank has a panel of 12 insurers providing quotes, from which it will publish the five most competitive ones.

All quotes remain valid and retrievable for 30 days.

Customers can pay online, and the process is repeated when customers renew their policies.

In addition, customers can now obtain vehicle assistance from the RAC. European and home cover is available for a reduced fee of £49.
