Fitch Ratings has assigned an "A plus" long-term rating to QBE Insurance Group.

Fitch said that the rating reflects QBE's sound provisioning policies, robust reinsurance arrangements and strong risk control procedures.

The ratings agency said a holding company such as QBE would normally be assigned a lower long-term rating than the insurer financial strength (IFS) ratings of its subsidiaries.

However it said QBE's flexibility of its cash flow means it has a strong capacity for timely payment of financial commitments.

Fitch claimed QBE's profitability prospects are good, with sub-100% combined ratios likely to continue.
