SCOR has become the latest insurance group to be added to Fitch's Rating Watch Negative list.

The international rating agency said it was concerned that "losses from the terrorist attacks in the USA last week as a percentage of capital may ultimately prove to be higher than is consistent with [SCOR's] current rating category."

However, it said that it would remove the company from Rating Watch and affirm its rating if its losses remained consistent with its current estimates of up to $200m (£137.2m).

Fitch added that if SCOR's losses did exceed its estimates it may be downgraded, but probably not lower than AA minus, which still implies a very strong capacity to meet obligations.

SCOR's current insurer financial strength and Long-term credit ratings are AA.
