Former HSBC insurance head resurfaces at Bupa

Bupa has appointed Robert Lang as managing director of its international private medical insurance (IPMI) business. 

Lang joins Bupa from UBS, where he was a managing director in the bank’s European Wealth Management division.

Prior to that he held various roles within HSBC including managing director of insurance, Hong Kong; head of insurance, HSBC Europe and UK; and chief executive officer, HSBC Life UK.

Chief executive Stuart Fletcher said: “Robert’s sector knowledge and record of success in running large insurance businesses in multiple markets will see him bring valuable expertise to Bupa that will help us grow our international private medical insurance offering.”

Lang said: “Bupa’s strong position in the IPMI market, coupled with its ambitions for growth, makes it an exciting time to be joining the company.”
