Nicol will replace Allan Briscoe who has chaired the committee for ten years

Biba has appointed George Nicol, the Swindon branch manager for Gallagher Bassett, as the new chairman of its motor panel.

The committee represents the interests of Biba members on matters relating to motor insurance.

Some of the issues they have worked on include; the prevention of fraudulent whiplash claims, the DVLA MyLicence initiative, the proposed Department for Transport green paper on young drivers, signposting insurance cover for older drivers, and the OFT and Competition Commision investigations into the private motor insurance market.

Nicol has been a member of the committee for nearly nine years. He replaces Allan Briscoe, a technical consultant at Aon, who has chaired the committee for ten years.

Nicol said: “I feel proud that [the committee] has become recognised as a leading voice in the market.  The committee has been admirably chaired by Allan, whom I totally respect for both his commitment and support.

“I hope I can adequately fill his shoes in taking up the reins and continue to ensure that we represent the market’s interests with the same drive and professionalism we have become respected for.”

Biba chief executive Steve White added: “George has been on the committee for nearly nine years and with his experience and commitment will drive the committee forward and ensure that members’ views and interests are represented at the highest levels.”
